At Five Pines Farm, we believe that responsible land and livestock practices are best. Many times we feel that we are not animal farmers but actually grass farmers as we use an intensive pasture and land management program. If the land is misused it cannot produce as it should for the livestock and the circle of the farm is broken. By the same token if livestock are mistreated or are not cared for properly, they too will not produce the optimal results. We take our responsibility seriously, for the care and management of the farm as a whole.
Calm and peaceful livestock = better quality meat.
Our beef is raised the "Pioneer Way". Living on pasture much of the year and lightly grained for flavor. Never fed drugs or hormones while in our care. Dry-aged cured for the best high-end taste and tenderness.
One of the greatest compliments we have been given is from a elderly lady whose father was a butcher... "This beef tastes like my fathers did, and actually tastes like beef!" Countless times we have been told some variation of "your beef is so much better than grocery beef", " Those filets we could cut with a fork!" or "My wife doesn't normally like beef but yours she loves!". We strive to provide a very high quality beef at a reasonable price.
Currently all our beef is sold through Pumpkin Seed Market a local specialty grocer.
Our KuneKune Pork is the newest edition to our farm! We are still experimenting for the best way to integrate multi specie grazing. We are excited to have the benefits to both the livestock and land with shared pastures!
KuneKune was developed in the Pacific Island region in the 1800s and are one of the few breeds that have hair, so as to be less susceptible to the elements. They thrive on pasture foraging and do not require heavy grain feeding like the factory farm breeds do.
Their pork is known for its deep color, fantastic marbling and rich flavor.
